  • Hydrangea macrophylla or the big leaf is a variety of hydrangea that produces large clusters of pink, purple and blue flowers. When soil pH is between 5.2 to 5.5 the plant produces blue flowers. When soil pH is between 6.0 to 6.2 the flowers produce pink flowers.
  • Panicle hydrangea are the hardiest and most adaptable varieties of hydrangea. Their flower heads have a cone shape and they come in white colour. Over a period of time, they turn to a colour of pink.
  • Oakleaf hydrangea The foliage of this variety resembles the oak leaf. White or green flowers in summer to pink or burgundy flowers in the fall season. This variety of hydrangea is more tolerant to extreme weather conditions and also pests.

Growing Conditions for hydrangea

Hydrangea has deep roots and needs a big container to grow. The container must be at least 2 feet deep and wide for growing hydrangea. Hydrangea needs 4 to 6 hours of sunlight. It needs well-drained fertile soil to grow well. You can use multi-purpose compost to fill the container. Intense sunlight can harm the plant. Make sure to provide morning sunlight and afternoon shade for the plant. Water the plant to keep the soil moist but overwatering can cause root rot. Water the soil when the topsoil is dry.
