It needs 6 to 8 hours of sunlight every day. The optimum temperature for lavender to grow is between 20°C to 30°C (68°F to 86°F). It can grow well in average soil conditions too. Lavender must be pruned regularly to encourage better growth. You can prune the dead and damaged stems during the spring and fall season. Fertilising the plant must be done once a month using liquid fertiliser or compost.
Grow Lavender at home
It is a bit difficult to grow lavender from seeds, so it’s better to buy a small lavender plant from your local nursery. If you are growing lavender in containers then make sure the container is at least 14 inches deep and wide. If you are growing lavender in the garden, then choose a sunny spot that receives 6 to 8 hours of sunlight and plant it there. Make sure the soil is well drained and has average fertility. While transplanting the plant, dig a hole that is sufficient for the roots to fit in. At the same time, make sure you don’t plant your lavender too deep. Water the plant when the soil is dry. If you are growing more than one lavender plant then make sure the plants are 2 to 3 feet apart.
Pests and Diseases
In most cases, garden pests do not attack lavender. If you notice aphids or spider mites in your lavender plant then you can use neem oil to treat them.
